Designer Spotlight: Michelle Branch

You might know Michelle Branch as the talented singer-songwriter who wrote some of the biggest hits of the early 2000s, but you might not be familiar with for her edgy, playful style. This musical powerhouse is releasing Hopeless Romantic, her first full length album in 14 years, and we’re celebrating her style and her new singles with a collection designed by Michelle. We’re counting down to her new record release by launching one piece at a time.

THE DOSSIER: MICHELLE BRANCH

My self-described style is rock ‘n roll tomboy.

My style icons are Patti Smith and Kate Moss- no explanation needed.

I shop everywhere from thrift stores to Net-a-Porter to small local boutiques when I’m traveling – I love grocery shopping and antiquing in other countries.

My favorite fashion designers: I’m a jeans and t-shirt girl and the things I splurge on I literally wear for years. My uniform is pretty much Stella McCartney underthings (she makes the best bras), Acne jeans with an Isabel Marant, Equipment, Iro or Saint Laurent top (if I’m being fancy!) I love men’s tailoring and I probably have more blazers than my boyfriend.

My favorite movie moment is in It’s a Wonderful Life, the end scene where the community comes together to save George never fails to make me cry. The scene where the dance floor opens up and everyone jumps into the swimming pool is pretty great too.

The song that gets me moving is a tie between “Let It Happen” from Tame Impala and “Reflektor” from Arcade Fire.

The song that makes me cry (in a good way) is “I Can’t Make You Love Me” from Bonnie Raitt is the most perfect heartbreaking lyric.

I’m not afraid to spend a little more on something seemingly basic that I’ll wear for years to come. Dark navy Balenciaga military trench anyone?

I follow @chrissyteigen@kellyoxford and @mimithor on Instagram. I also secretly follow @daisylowe who I don’t know in real life and only follow because I’ve been told we look alike, ha!

The most surprising this about me is I love cooking as much as I love making music. I almost went to pastry school but then I was lucky enough to get a record deal. And I still can’t quite believe that I have an 11 year old daughter!

My favorite vacation destination is staying with my friends in their gorgeous Georgian manor in The Cotswolds. I stay in so many hotels when I’m on tour that to me the biggest luxury of all is renting a house with a kitchen where I can go to the local market, cook and have long, leisurely meals with friends.

If I had $500 to burn I would spend it on shoes or a plane ticket.

The piece of jewelry I never take off is the vintage diamond ring my boyfriend Patrick gave me last Christmas. It’s my very favorite. It’s simple and classic, I can stack it with anything or wear it alone.

For the release of Michelle’s first single, Hopeless Romantic, she designed the Spinning Pendant.

The Spinning Pendant flips from heart to skull, light to dark, sweet to intense, represented in one necklace.
